Michael Fitzgerald                                  

Michael Fitzgerald was born in Newcastle Australia. He studied at the University of Newcastle receiving a Bachelor of Music with first class honours and a Faculty Medal. He is currently studying for a Phd (Music) looking at the 19th and 20th century music of Spain and Latin America with Terry Latham and Richard Vella.
 
He has had masterclasses with Pavel Steidl (Czech Republic), Karin Schaupp (Australia), Izar Elias (Holland), Rafael Andia (France), Timothy Kain (Australia) and Don Andrews (Australia).

He has performed at the graduation ceremonies for the University of Newcastle  as well as numerous times for the Lunchtime Concerts at the Newcastle Conservatorium which are aired on 2NUR FM. He has also played at the Newcastle Regional Art Gallery for their Sunday afternoon concert series and at the Lake Macquarie Art Gallery showcasing luthier Jim Williams’ guitars.

He presented  a paper at the Musicological Society of Australia, Queensland Chapter, titled Emulating History: A Modern Performer's Perspective on HIstorical Performanceand is to have a paper published of the same title. He performed with Bruce Matthiske in the first Hunter Music Festival which included the great George Golla. In 2001 and 2002 composed and performed the music for two original Australian plays for Omni Theatre Company titled The Beggars' Kingdom and Gypsies which won a CONDA award.

He also performed in The Impossible Body  an opera by Katrina Pring in 2004. He composed the music for and performed in two original Australian plays with Omni Theatre Company in 2000 and 2002.
