Larni Christie

Larni is the eldest of 3 children and was raised on the Darling Downs in South East Queensland.  Her first theatre performance was at 14 when she toured for 12 months with the Queensland Theatre Company's youth theatre in a  production of A Midsummer's Night's Dream.  Her belief that  theatre is an integral part of a young person's development began there.

Larni graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Japanese and Drama.  For 5 years she worked in Sydney in the Japanese tourist industry.  Upon moving to Muswellbrook, she taught the Japanese Certificate course for 9 years at TAFE.  After the birth of her 2nd child, she did part time study from the University of New England to obtain her Graduate Diploma of Education.  She has 2 children Jasmine and Lyndon.

Currently, Larni works as a Primary Drama Teacher at Muswellbrook Public School, and has held that position for 5 years.  Larni is a Life Member of the Muswellbrook Amateur Theatrical Society.  She has directed, produced, choreographed, costumed and designed more than 10 years of shows in the local area.

Larni has resided in Muswellbrook for 21 years and during this time has been involved with developing young people's opportunities in the performance arena.  She has prepared school dance groups, coordinated youth drama workshops and directed both student and adult productions.  Larni has prepared 100's of students to compete in the Upper Hunter Eisteddfod Speech and Drama Section.  To acknowledge her contribution to the community she was awarded the Muswellbrook Shire Australia Day Award Cultural Achiever in Jan 2009.

She joined the UHCM to teach Drama in 2009 and teaches group and private lessons in Muswellbrook and Singleton each week.
